Nearly 24 Million Adults Suffer From Arthritis... Learn 1 Single Fact To Avoid The Surgeons Scalpel
By: Colin Geldhart
September 25, 2023
This video is a quick break down of how arthritis can build up. Dr.Geldart shows a diagram of how arthritis can generate in your knee joint. The reason he chooses the knee is because the knee is the most common place where most people experience arthritis, and also, it’s is an important weightbearing joint. Other common weightbearing joint’s in the body where this can also occur is the ankle, hip, and back.
Arthritis is the most common cause of disability in the United States and now affects 46 million Americans, or more than 21 percent of the adult population
But what does arthritis actually do and look like? Typically, you have exceptionally smooth rings of cartilage that sit in the outside of the joints on both sides. As we get older and start weightbearing in different ways then different parts of the knees start to wear down. Eventually your left with ridges on the bone, which is commonly known as “Arthritis”.
Now how do we actually fix arthritis though? If you watch the video above you’ll see Dr.Geldart’s diagram and how/where the ridges form. Now imagine them moving and catching causing the pain.
Think about it like 2 pieces of sandpaper rubbing together. When you first rub them together their very coarse, and it’s extremely hard to slide past one another. But as you wear them down more and more it gets smoother and the same is true for arthritis.
How exactly can you make this area smooth and less painful you may be asking? That’s simple… Range of Motion!
Specific kinds of exercise's are key to helping you maintain or even improve your range of motion. This can get anyone back to their favorite yoga class, long walks with their husbands, and even back to 8 hours of sleep at night.
Overall, the key is to keep moving when it comes to making arthritis feel better… not moving less.
That’s it for today everyone, remember movement is medicine!
