Here’s What Posture Corrector You Should Choose

Dr. Arnan Sisson, PT / October 6, 2022

Today, I’m going to explain exactly what you need to know about posture correctors and which one you should choose.

If you’re looking for help with your posture, it’s probably because of back or neck pain, right? You’ve probably been told that posture is the real problem. Well, from our point of view, posture doesn’t really matter. There are many research studies that conclude that “good” and “bad” posture are not clearly defined, and also that posture itself does not cause pain.

The way to change how you feel is to continually move and use your body. You have to do the hard work. There’s not one device out there that’s going to magically fix you or your posture and save you from years of pain and agony. It’s probably not what you wanted to hear, but it’s the truth.

Here’s the problem with posture correctors: If you don’t use the muscles in order to keep you upright, they end up getting weaker. Over time, with a device holding you up, it leads to increased symptoms down the road.

Usually, the real cause is that your body needs more variability. Usually, it’s something not working like it should.

Remember, it’s not bad posture. There’s not a “bad posture.” There’s lack of variable postures. We know that even if someone had “perfect” posture, staying in that posture for 8+ hours a day would lead to pain. You have to move your body to its full range of motion. That’s why when we look at our patients, we take them through a full body movement assessment.

If you do want to get a posture corrector and are reading this to figure out which type to get, just pick one. Choose the one that resonates with you best, but don’t be hesitant to seek out help too.
